PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Arising out of the events on 26 April 2019, at the Chinese Australia Forum (CAF) Federal Election Debate Dinner (the Event), with the Hon Linda Burney MP and Julian Leeser MP as guest speakers, Mr Teikhock Lim lodged a complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission in relation to an incident which occurred at the Event.

The parties have agreed to settle the complaint on the basis of an apology which acknowledges that Teikhock was not permitted to speak his question at the Dinner, and was asked to write his question down, which he felt did not address his needs.

CAF apologises for causing Teikhock distress as a result of this procedure. CAF acknowledges Teikhock’s humiliating experience and will be mindful of people with disabilities in the future and will act accordingly.
