CAF Rolls Out Civics Education Workshops to Western Australia

In partnership with the Australian Government’s National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, the Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce (WACCC), and Chung Wah Association, the Chinese Australian Forum (CAF) successfully launched its Civics Education and Media Literacy Workshops in Western Australia for the first time, engaging the local community in important conversations about Australian democracy and civic participation.

  1. 1st Workshop – 12 October 2024 : Held at Chung Wah Hall in Northbridge, the first workshop attracted a Mandarin-speaking audience ranging from 30 to 70 years old. Participants were eager to learn about the Australian democratic system and how to verify the news they consume. Their active involvement and thoughtful questions made for a highly engaging session.

  1. 2nd Workshop – 16 November 2024: the second workshop saw 53 attendees. The event featured engaging discussions on the foundations of Australian democracy, with Elvie Yap leading the session and contributions from local leaders like Tony Chong (WACCC President) and Dr. Ting Chen (President of Chung Wah Association).

  1. 3rd Workshop – 17 January 2025: The third workshop has attracted 65 attendees. The session focused on understanding the workings of Australian democracy and how attendees can actively participate in its processes.  Attendees were mostly Mandarin-speaking and were in the 20 to 60+ year age bracket.

CAF is proud to bring these workshops to Western Australia for the first time, empowering the Chinese Australian community with knowledge and tools to engage more actively in civic life. Thanks to all our partners and participants for making this initiative a success!
